Hungry for an updated kitchen? Even if a complete remodel isn't in your budget, you can give your kitchen a new look by changing the countertops, adding a backsplash or putting in a stylish new sink.

Granite Transformations offers custom-fitted granite or recycled glass countertop overlays that don't require the expense, time and inconvenience of removing your existing countertops.

"Our recycled glass countertops are manufactured with up to 72 percent post-consumer recycled materials," said Darrin Murray, co-owner of Granite Transformations' Tulsa and Wichita locations. The company's designers and engineers select the best transparent glass, recycled glass and semi-precious man-made stone fragments to produce vivid colors and depth.

Granite countertop overlays provide the beautiful look of granite in an engineered surface made of granite, stone and quartz.

"We take the granite or glass, form it back into a slab and add a polymer to it," Murray said. "The polymer bonds with the granite and glass, making the product more durable and more resistant to heat, stain and scratches." Maintenance-free, these countertops won't harbor any bacteria.

"You can cut on them, even take a hot pan right off the stove and set it on top," Murray said.

As you can imagine, countertop overlays require much less time to install. "We allow two days to do the job, but we generally get our jobs done in one day," he added.

Mosaic tile backsplashes are another way to add beauty to your kitchen. The durable product gives your kitchen the clean, contemporary look of traditional Italian glass mosaic.

"They are a nice complement to the granite countertops," Murray said. "We use a high-quality, hand-cut glass."

Kitchen sinks have changed a lot. The kitchen sink may be the most used spot in the kitchen, but it doesn't have to look like it. Manufacturers offer a variety of styles and materials. Stainless steel continues to be a popular choice.

Homebuyers who are building a new home can select from a wider range of sinks because they are starting from scratch.

"From a trend perspective, apron sinks are very popular for their big, multifunctional bowl and stylish appeal," said Jaclyn Pardini in Lowe's public relations department. "Apron sinks also come in many different styles, including the popular farmhouse style sink. Metals, combined with commercial-style sinks, with a single bowl and large capacity, are also popular when going for the industrial-style look."

Buyers can also choose a double-basin stainless steel apron sink with a soft-squared look, which softens the sharp edges.

"The sink is one of the most functional and utilized spaces in the kitchen, and we are working to make the sink design more appealing and still functional by providing larger bowls and single bowls for more useable space," Pardini said.

"Sinks to go," which include the faucet, simplifies the customer experience and provides value.

You will be living with whichever sink you decide on for quite some time, so choose carefully. A well-made sink will last as long as you need it and should maintain its looks well throughout the years.
