Oregon passes e-recycling law

Oregon, US has passed a new law which makes it illegal to throw away old computers, monitors and TV sets, effective from January 1 2010.

This new state mandatory recycling law bans electronics waste from state landfills, transfer stations or incinerators. The state now offers free drop-off points for computers, monitors and TV sets.

Though items such as keyboards and mice are not covered by the ban, these items can also be recycled at the state drop-off points.

Violation of the ban could result in a fine of up to $500 for each device.
