TAKING SIDES?
WMW looks at how the two compartment side loader works, following news
from TransLift BV that the 'split' side loader model will be brand new
for 2011.
Dronten, Netherlands-based manufacturer TranslLift BV produces a number
of specialist side-loading waste and recycling compaction body options
- including the interesting 'Disposal Park' fixed base station
developed for the Swiss market. This uses standard production body
'pods' and a compaction hopper that transverses from a full body to an
empty one on rails. Waste Management World will be taking a closer look
in a future issue.
Brand new for 2011 is a 'split' side loader model. On hearing the news,
WMW's plant and vehicles specialist Malcolm Bates
was keen to find out how a two compartment side loader might work. And
why this may be of operational advantage. In fact however, in this
context, the word 'split' denotes the capability to load with twin side
loading arms - one on each side of the unit. The new split unit enables
up to four domestic 240 litre containers to be loaded at the same time.
So why is this a big advantage? "Because it finally enables the
sideloader to grow from being a useful unit on low or medium density
housing, to being much more viable in a high density situation, as
properties on both sides of the street can now be serviced in one
pass," explains Bates.
At the heart of all Translift units is a 'twin screw' compaction
system, which the company contends is the best solution for units of
this type. Another key feature which has obvious operational advantages
- but which not all manufacturers provide - is the 'IES' demount body
option. This enables full body pods to be taken to the disposal point
by conventional hooklift trucks, giving the collection unit greater 'on
station' time. Translift also has a full 'Multi-Modal' option - 'ACTS'.
