The Chinese province of Heilongjiang has announced plans it will develop its economy while ensuring environmental protection is its top priority.
The province currently boasts one of the best preserved environments in China. When central government released plans for revitalization of north east China in August 2007, it stated Heilongjian’s role is ‘the key ecological shelter of the nation’.
Traditionally an industrial centre, the region is making efforts to ensure its manufacturing industry, tourism sector and energy industry can reduce its environmental impact. For example, the tourism sector is reducing the number of tourists allowed into the region.
Heilongjiang is now implementing large-scale campaigns for the establishment of e-commerce, e-government and e-campuses into the region.
