UK-based municipal vehicle manufacturer Dennis Eagle used the recent Futuresource exhibition at London's ExCel Centre to outline its production plans for the next decade.
The timing is perfect as the company celebrates its 25th anniversary this month; although as individual prior merger companies, Dennis Brothers Limited and Eagle Engineering of Warwick are much older (going back to the 19th century in the case of Dennis).
Managing Director Norman Thoday told Waste Management World that following ‘substantial’ investment from the parent RosRoca Group, a new production facility is due to be construction alongside the current Warwick, UK plant. ‘This will enable us to significantly increase production of both our special purpose chassis and refuse (garbage) collection bodywork,’ he explained.
Until recently, Dennis Eagle - one of the few manufacturers in the world to have the capability to produce a complete refuse collection vehicle - tended to concentrate on the UK home market and a few selected export markets, but that now looks set to change.
As a result of the investment package - and the switch to Volvo Penta diesel engines - Dennis Eagle is now in a much stronger position to sell either complete units, specialized 'Elite' low entry-cabbed truck chassis, or compaction body units for mounting on locally produced chassis, depending on the needs of each global market. ‘For example, we are already producing chassis without power units for completion in the Australian market, but our recently announced electro-hydraulic plug-in compaction body and the high specification Volvo-Allison automatic transmission makes the combination of Dennis Eagle Elite chassis and Olympus body equipment ideal for the northern European and Scandinavian markets,’ he commented.
Dennis Eagle also produces chassis for highways cone laying applications while the company is now one of the few globally that is capable of producing 2.25 metre wide 'narrow track' chassis.
