Fisia Babcock Environmental German Waste to Energy Facility Awards Contract for 40MW Boiler03 January 2012

Cologne based waste to energy technology manufacturer, Fisia Babcock Environment (FBE) has secured a contract with waste management company Wuppertaler AWG to supply a new boiler plant to a waste to energy facility in Wuppertal, Germany.

According to the company, under the contract it will supply a complete boiler plant on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis including all ancillary facilities, to be commissioned early in 2014.

FBE said that in 2004 it won the order to supply the same facility's boiler plant No.12, which was commissioned in 2005 after a lead time of 20 months.

In addition to delivery, erection and commissioning of the firing system and steam generator the electrostatic precipitator of the boiler plant was also reconditioned as part of the 2004 contract.

The company said that boiler plant No.12 has since been operating at a maximum capacity of 13 tonnes of waste per hour and a thermal input of 35 MW.

Boiler plant No.13 is designed for a maximum processing capacity of 17 tonnes of waste per hour and a gross thermal input of 40 MW.

According to FBE, as with its previous installation at the facility, the particular challenge regarding boiler plant No.13 is the fact that the complete plant must be integrated into the already existing infrastructure.

The company said that restricted space at the site and the need to protect existing systems during planning and erection, as well as limited storage areas and pre-assembly space have added to the challenge.
