13 July 2011 Refuse truck manufacturer FAUN-Zoeller has launched a hybrid electric-diesel refuse collection vehicle.
According to the company, the Rotopress Dualpower Hybrid can help reduce fuel consumption by up to a third and features energy saving technology exclusive to the waste sector, which monitors and manages fuel consumption.
A second auxiliary engine - held within a soundproofed capsule - significantly reduces the noise created when in operation in residential areas and allows the vehicle to function on electricity alone rather than hydraulics.
The vehicle has recently been showcased at a series of innovation days held by Faun-Zoeller in association with the Chartered Institution of Waste Management (CIWM) Business Club in Falkirk, Wigan, London, Birmingham and Newport.
Simon G Hyde, CEO of FAUN Zoeller (UK) Limited, said: "These events present an unparalleled opportunity for us to demonstrate a product which will help our clients drive down their operating costs and impact on the environment with a vehicle that is sustainable without compromising on functionality."
