The ExCel Centre in London Docklands, England, is the venue for the second International Futuresource event organised jointly by the Chartered Institute of Waste Management and the Environmental Services Agency (the association of UK commercial waste contractors) from June 15 to 17.
According to spokesperson for the Futuresource team, Julie Fitt, the available exhibition space for the event is already filling up fast. 'Manufacturers who took a gamble that the recession in Europe was likely to be over this Spring managed to get prime locations and now that official figures from most national economies confirm this, it really looks like we're going to have a vibrant, exciting show,' she explains. 'But the really significant development has been an agreement between the organisers of Futuresource and the Public Procurement Show, that is also taking place in adjacent halls of ExCel, to enable visitors of both events to move freely without re-registering. This will make a visit to London doubly useful for any government or public sector specifier, purchaser, or policy maker,' she adds.
So what sort of policy decisions are at - or should be at - the top of your agenda? The potential use of alternative fuels, or power systems is clearly one such topic. As previously reported, Italian manufacturer Solmec has recently developed an all-electric materials handler suitable for waste picking operations and an example will be demonstrated at Futuresource, alongside other electric and diesel/ electric hybrid vehicles in a special feature organised by our correspondent Malcolm Bates.
With only a few exhibition spaces left (exhibitor enquiries to julie.fitt@ciwm.co.uk ), the focus has now switched to attracting visitors to the event. Organisers of special group visits and individual ISWA members who are planning to come to Futuresource can log on to www.futuresourceuk.com, for more details and assistance. Attendance at the Futuresource exhibition is free to all waste and recycling industry professionals.
