A recently published report from the London Assembly has called for an alternative strategy to deal with the 22 million tonnes of waste produced in the UK's capital city. The environmental benefits of converting London's non-recyclable waste into energy and heat is laid out in the document entitled 'Where there's muck there's brass' which says that if techniques such as pyrolysis and gasification were used then London would be able to generate enough electricity for two million homes and enough heat for 625,000 homes.
