UK industrial town goes French

The town of Rugby in the UK, was previously best known as the home of heavy engineering. But like many perviously wealthy centres it has suffered as manufacturing industry has declined, or moved to cheaper labour markets elsewhere in the world.

In any such situation, it is vital that new 'start -up' businesses are attracted to replace the jobs lost in the larger, traditional manufacturing groups and in many respects, achieving that is just as complex as the job of attracting and keeping tourists at holiday resorts. Environmental issues, infrastructure decay, vandalism - all these undesirable factors will increase, if the streets, footpaths and public open spaces are not kept in good order, as the authorities in other former major manufacturing centres, such as Detroit, USA, can testify.

So where does the French Connection come in? It comes in the form of two compact, French-built 'Azura' vacuum sweepers from Mathieu. The two, two cubic metre capacity machines are used in conjunction with a fleet of larger UK-built Scarab sweepers to keep the streets and footpaths clean.

The connection is that the Azuras are now marketed by Scarab in the UK and the units working in rugby have been working well on tough local shopping precinct and footpath applications.

Increasingly however, the French-based Fayed group company is also working in conjunction with Scarab Sweepers to offer a full product line of machines on citywide 'turnkey' projects to provide an entire sweepers and street washing fleet anywhere in the world.
