Spring has sprung, and as the waste industry starts gearing up for the summer trade shows we have decided to have a moment of reflection on the achievements of our industry over the past few years. That’s why this issue – as well as covering your usual topics – has a focus on innovation.
Our article ‘Innovations in waste’ on page 16 is there to give you a flavour of some of the greatest ideas and success stories that have dominated the waste industry, and indeed the pages of Waste Management World, over the past few years. We compiled the shortlist using the results of an online survey we conducted, in which we asked you, the reader, for your views on the most innovative ideas and processes in your individual sectors. While we did not have the space to mention every concept or technology – and, as you’d imagine, there are many – we have tried to give you the major umbrella headings into which most of the new technologies, or ideas, fall.
Also included within these pages is a fascinating article by Antonis Mavropoulos of ISWA on the future of waste management, an exclusive feature on Caterpillar by collection and transport expert Malcolm Bates, a look at the biowaste-powered bus system in Lille, and a preview of the upcoming Futuresource show in June – to which Waste Management World is an official partner. Plus much more.
It is my job to look out for the latest and greatest innovations in waste, and I am always interested in hearing from readers who have something new to tell me so I would welcome any feedback you have about this issue. Waste is an industry which gives us much to be proud of. Please send your comments to wmw@pennwell.com.
Many thanks
