05 December 2011A proposal for a 1 MW landfill gas fuelled waste to energy project featuring a gas turbine engine has been passed by Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
The project would see a partnership between Corona, California based engineering and manufacturing specialist, Combustion Associates and the County of Riverside, California.
According to Combustion Associates, the project offers the potential to create jobs for the local workforce while becoming a showcase project for the company to domestic and international clients.
The project was proposed to the Board of Supervisors by County Supervisor John Tavaglione.
"With AQMD (Air Quality Management District) introducing tougher standards on conventional internal combustion engines used to convert methane to energy, a jet-turbine system may be the only type of power plant capable of meeting these tougher standards," explained Tavaglione.
"This is an opportunity for the county to help a local business owner create more jobs and have a fully functional system in place at one of the existing landfills," he added.
