Cuckoo clocks? Swiss Chocolate? No, no. It's the Swiss Army penknife. The idea behind the design of this piece of equipment was that it provided it's user with a tool suitable to undertake any task likely to be found 'out in the field'.

The 'multi-tool' approach also has it's attractions when it comes to waste, recycling and highways/infrastructure maintenance and while the Mercedes Benz 'Unimog' is perhaps the most famous example, the also German-built Multicar 'M-30 Fumo' range also offers a multi- purpose 'tool carrier' capability.
In fact, while this compact Iveco turbo-diesel powered range has had something of a checkered history, the recent takeover of parent manufacturer Hako has resulted in a new stronger marketing philosophy - and some significant new product range additions.
Top of these - and launched officially this week at the Bauma exhibition in Munich- is the new 6x4 model rated at 7.49tonnes gross weight. M-30 models were already available in both 4x2 and 4x4 versions, in two wheelbases, and with the option of a four-man tilt crew cab, alongside a whole host of hydraulic PTO options and linkages to power attachments, loader cranes and other equipment, but the arrival of the 6x4 dramatically increases the types of duty the Multicar can undertake.
One of the first body and equipment manufacturers to spot this potential is German-based Hagermann & Partner. Hagermann already produces specially designed under 2-metre wide waste and recyclable collection bodies for the two axle Multicar and now has a new rear end loader for the 6x4 which takes full advantage of the 3-metre plus body length available on the new chassis.
Vacuum gully/jetter tankers and swap body ground level demountable hooklifts for a whole range of duties including recycling or delivering compact static compactors in an old quarter of city centres, are also available.
