World's largest residual waste gasification plant underway

Planning permission has been granted to BioGen Power to build the world’s largest waste gasification facility to be fuelled by residual waste in West Yorkshire, UK. It has been reported that the facility will process 160,000 tonnes of residual waste annually and generate 83,300 MW of electricity. The gasification technology is being supplied by Energos, owened by Ener-G.

This is the fifth facility given permission to go ahead for BioGen, while another three projects are awaiting a final decision.

BioGen Power chief executive Christian Reeve said: ‘The quality of the application together with the proven nature of our chosen Energos technology, enabled us to win over the hearts and minds of the planning committee who recognised that as a council they needed to be proactive and at the leading edge of future waste management planning. Our approved application here will ensure that Bradford benefits from a well proven, economical, green and clean alternative to the outdated and un-environmentally friendly acceptable practice of landfill.’
