Waste Management Inc has announced plans to build a plasma arc incineration plant using technology developed by InEnTec LLC at its landfill in Arlington, Oregon. The plant should be operational later this year and will be a pilot project with the view to developing the technology to the point where it can be used on a large scale. If this project works out Waste Management will employ the technology at other sites including McMinnville’s Riverbend landfill. The initial plant will be able to process 25 tons (22.6 tonnes) per day but the aim is to increase this to the point where a plant could process 125 tons (113 tonnes) per day, making the technology commercially viable.
